ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
MATTHEW CHAMBERS (b. 1982) draws inspiration from pop culture, art history, and pastoral Montana, where he lives. With a diverse set of references, ranging from the Looney Tunes, to past conversations, and colorful floral arrangements, Chambers' figurations address the mundane with a balance of reverie and wit. Buttressing them are a series of large abstractions constructed using strips of painted, but discarded canvas. Working with muted and saturated tones, Chambers understands the panels as formal abstractions of his reference matter. Chambers received his MFA from Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, CA in 2006. Recent solo exhibitions include Crazy Horse West, Marinaro, New York NY (2019); Montana Wildflowers as I Imagine I’ll See in the Spring, Praz-Delavallade, Los Angeles, CA (2017); Henry Taylor/Matthew Chambers, Rental Gallery, East Hampton, NY (2017).
BRIAN LOTTI (b. 1972) is a Brooklyn-based painter. He often sketches in plein-air and uses swaths of vibrant color, quick staccatos, and heavy impasto strokes to construct color-blocked architectures, figures, and horizons that tease out the dynamism of atmosphere, light, and movement. Lotti’s longtime career in skateboarding as a professional rider and filmmaker has fostered a hypersensitivity to the street as an aesthetic subject pregnant with physical, sensual, and emotional depth. He uses expressionist and impressionist techniques to describe the fleeting, dynamic, and visceral experiences of pervading urban landscapes. The artist graduated with a BA from San Francisco State University in 1998 and has since exhibited in the United States and around the world.
