THE NEWSSTAND PROJECT is pleased to present PAINTINGS AND BIRDS TWO, a simultaneous two-part exhibition of recent paintings and ceramics by Bakersfield-based artist KEN TAYLOR. PAINTINGS AND BIRDS TWO will be on view by appointment at both the House on Sunset and Kings Road Café locations of The Newsstand Project from May 17 to June 28, 2019. Opening receptions will be held at both spaces. The first, an exhibition of paintings, will take place at The House on Sunset at 9169 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, CA. 90069 on May 17, 2019 from 7:00 - 11:00pm. An exhibition of sculptures will open at Kings Road Cafe at 8361 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. 90048 from 11:00am - 1:30pm.
PAINTINGS AND BIRDS TWO features recent works from Ken Taylor’s painting and sculpting practice. Taylor works primarily with oil paints and glazed ceramics to construct a distinct visual vernacular. Using emblematic representations of wild birds, various flora from his backyard, and personal possessions, the artist assembles a diaristic index of imagery that reveals a sincere and nostalgic attitude toward the immediate environment, as well as his perceptions and experiences within. He renders his work in a vibrant and approachable formal style that blurs the boundaries between abstraction, figuration, and still life.
