ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
DESIRE REBECCA MOHEB-ZANDI (born 1990, Berlin, DE, lives & works in NYC) holds a AA from Parsons School of Design. Recent exhibitions include One Year Of Resistance, Untitled Space Gallery, NYC; Bent but Unbroken, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Detroit; She Inspires Group Show, Untitled Space Gallery, NYC; and Art Students League of New York, Phyllis Harriman Mason Gallery, NYC.

The Newsstand Project is pleased to present Landscapes, a solo exhibition of new work by New York-based artist Desire Rebecca Moheb-Zandi. For this exhibition, Moheb-Zandi will be showing selected recent works from her ongoing body of textile-based sculptural wall works. Landscapes will be on view at The House on Sunset @ 9169 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, CA. 90069 from January 17–February 8 by appointment only, with a public opening reception on Thursday, January 17th from 6pm–9pm. Landscapes draws from Moheb-Zandi’s life-long relationship with textile design and fabrication. From an early age, the artist has found both personal and cultural identity through the hours spent watching her grandmother work a loom in her childhood home, Turkey.
Since relocating to the U.S., originally to attend Parsons School of Design in NYC, Moheb-Zandi has employed her personal history with textiles by mining countless sculptural possibilities and combining found materials such as plastic and rubber with traditional modes of textile fabrication.
Through hand manipulation, surface treatment, and formal arrangement, Moheb-Zandi constructs horizontally-layered painterly compositions that captivate the viewer through the use of color and craft. Following in a history of such varied modern and contemporary influences as Sheila Hicks, Louise Bourgeois, Robert Morris, and Eva Hesse, Moheb-Zandi constantly evolves her work through studied technique, intuitive sensibilities, and a desire to restate the inherent histories that textiles carry.
